Abstract
There are about 27 million slaves living in our current world. This number is much higher than the amount of slaves trafficked during transatlantic slave trading in the past. And still, few people know about the cruelties and structures of modern enslavement. Worldwide profits from human trafficking are equal to those of drugs and arms trading, but the financial means to fight it, are up to several hundred times smaller. Sex trafficking is only one form of slavery that has comparatively high profits, requiring low investments. Copyright: IFAC 2013.
