Abstract

The transportation of freight is perhaps the main user of petrol as natural resource worldwide – and this usage is continuously increasing. Today the logistic industry has become one of the most important industries by organizing the worldwide supply chains. It generates its services in the individual markets and simultaneously it is strongly influenced by them. Future challenges mean to manage integrated logistics solutions, first of all, to reduce the petrol usage. One solution is to link in optimum ways supply-chains, manufacturing processes and distribution networks of regional and global companies. The aims are – beyond improving the usage of natural resources - to improve average costs, transport times and service quality. The integrated logistics concept allows specifically both suppliers and customers to return to their core competencies which influence the logistic concepts at large. In this paper the German beverage market is discussed as an example.
