Abstract
System simulation has been widely deployed for engine design purposes over the last 10 years with a particular focus on the optimization of the engine performance and fuel consumption. The control world has not benefited at the same extent from these engine modeling activities. However, the new complexity of engine actuation systems and the increasing number of degrees of freedom to handle, make the plant modeling a more sensible aspect than ever. The authors present in this paper how, applied all over the control development process at RENAULT, engine system simulation helps the control people achieving their goals.
