Abstract

Firstly, this paper describes the main reasons of damages laser diodes. Then, it is proposed a new concept of a diode driver. Its concept, is based on switching a laser diode at zero conditions. This means that a diode should be turned on when the current throught it and voltage across it is safely small. This makes it necessary to concurrent change the several control parameters of the circuit. The PLDs, such as FPGAs, are excellent for controlling multi-parametric drivers. The presented idea can be applied not only in the laser diode drivers, but also in multichannel LEDs power supplies.
