Abstract
Fault Diagnosis of Discrete Event Systems has become an active research area in recent years. The research activity in this area is driven by the needs of many different application domains such as manufacturing, process control, control systems, transportation, communication networks, software engineering, and others. The aim of this plenary address is to review the state-of the art on methods and techniques for fault diagnosis of discrete event systems. Theoretical and practical issues related to model description tools, diagnosis processing structure, sensor selection, fault representation and inference will be discussed. Some criteria to choose methods to achieve fault diagnosis and future research directions will be investigated.
