Abstract

The motivation and the objective of this work are to initiate a systematic application of the well-established system factorization and gap metric techniques to fault detection and isolation (FDI) study. This promises an alternative and, in some cases, more efficient way to deal with analysis and design of model-based FDI systems. Our focus is on FDI for linear time-invariant systems with model uncertainties and multiplicative faults. We address FDI issues both in the open- and closed-loop configurations. The paper consists of two parts. In the first part, the coprime factorization technique aided system modelling and FDI schemes are addressed, which also build the basis for our work in the second part.
