Abstract
In this paper, the dynamic behavior and stability of a symmetrical nonlinear two degree-of-freedom system with a piecewise-linear compression spring are studied using the incremental harmonic balance method. The stability of the periodic solution is investigated using Floquet theory. The results of a parametric study compare favorably with the continuation method and showed that the upper stage stiffness and pre-compression size has a strong effect on the frequency response. The effects of the static-deflection and viscous damping are also discussed.
