Abstract
⺠We developed an experimental device to provide high speed machining. ⺠The cause of saw-tooth chip formation for AISI 1045 steel is investigated. ⺠Mass transfer of heat due to chip flow retards the saw-tooth chip formation. ⺠Increasing cutting speed weakens thermal diffusion and enhances mass transfer.
