Abstract
This paper conducts an analysis of the transverse free vibration and stability for spinning pipes conveying fluid, which is a typical structural undergoing doubly gyroscopic effects. It has been found that the critical flow velocities are independent of the spinning speed and mass ratio. Forward and backward whirling motions will alternatively take place for the first four modes, and a 'traveling wave' with spatial configuration is present during vibrations. The gyroscopic coupling of directions caused by spinning motion will result in transfers of the vibration energy between two directions, while the gyroscopic coupling of the general coordinates in one transverse direction motion caused by FSI may lead to the vibration energy transferring between the two general coordinates of either direction.73
