Abstract
⺠The loss of ellipticity of a new set of partial differential equations is studied. ⺠A new, higher-order acoustic tensor is involved and becomes dominant in the present situation. ⺠Elucidation of new relevant issues and concepts is achieved by focusing attention on plane deformations.
