Abstract
The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was conducted and compared with the erosion results tested by impacting solid particles under air jet on the WC-Ni coated specimens with and without boron element. The coating thickness and air jet velocity were 1 mm and 30 ± 2 m/s, respectively. The simulation is done with the two turbulence models, namely the k-É (k-epsilon) model and the shear stress transport (SST) model based on the Finnie erosion model. The simulation result from the SST model gives better accuracy than that from the k-É model, comparing with the experimental results. It was considered that the transport of turbulent shear stress affects accuracy.
