Abstract
Earthquakes mechanism is considered highly nonlinear may be due to the friction effects involved. Here, we propose a dynamical model of this system that includes empirical friction law of rocks and those used in mechanical systems. The proposed model is a forced system incorporing the friction forces more relevant in earthquakes. We describe the behavior for homogeneous and forced system and investigate computationally the effects of an external, deterministic and periodic force in the proposed system.
