Abstract
The paper considers high purity distillation control of a binary mixture in a tray column. The approach is based on a reduced model of the column in descriptor form. Model reduction is archived by considering dynamics of concentration waves along the tray coordinate. The resulting descriptor model is augmented by weighting systems in a mixed-sensitivity set-up. Specialization of a recent general quadratic performance approach for descriptor systems to the singular H-infinity setting is the basis for a LMI based controller computation.
