Abstract
The conception of a driver assistance system for fuel reduction needs to define and solve a fuel optimal control problem. In this paper, we present the formulation of this problem and propose the dynamic programming (DP) algorithm to solve it. Instantaneous fuel consumption model is used to evaluate the objective function and the tradeoff between fuel rate, trip time and the driver comfort is discussed.
