Advanced driver assistance applications like cooperative assistance systems or automatic vehicle guidance usually require vehicle positioning with lane accuracy. This can be achieved by using differential GNSS in combination with additional complementary sensor sources. However, lane accuracy is also affected by the quality of the digital map, which is needed to match the vehicle on the lane. Therefore, the definition of this term is essential for the development of future vehicle localisation systems and digital maps. By considering all relevant influences, this paper presents an approach to quantify lane accuracy. Using this approach, lane accuracy is evaluated for todays and future positioning and map accuracies and discussed in the context of safety critical applications.
