Abstract
In this paper, the performance of a hyperbolic failure criterion is compared with the respective performance of five established failure criteria for cohesive-frictional materials. The comparison is both qualitative and quantitative. The data sets used were found in the open literature and refer to five rock types and one concrete. All the data were obtained from true triaxial tests with independent control of the three principal stresses. The merits and disadvantages of each criterion are critically evaluated and discussed.
