Abstract
This paper presents a new technique in digital communications, called model-based-predictive adaptive-delta-modulation (MBP-ADM). MBP-ADM uses system identification tools to identify a model of the signal which is used for prediction. The prediction helps the system to respond adaptively to a varying input signal, in order to achieve improved performance. The results show a substantial improvement in the signal to noise ratio (SNR) with MBP-ADM's compared to the ‘classical adaptive’ and ‘non-adaptive’ Delta Modulators.
