Abstract

In a grinding-classification circuit product quality is ultimately qualified by the particle size of the ore fed to the flotation stage. At Codelco El Teniente Division, the Unitary Grinding Plant product size is measured using analysis equipment based on slurry samples; this, for a number or reasons, has low availability, which does not complies with advanced control strategies requirements. This work presents the results obtained on developing an estimator or virtual sensor for hydrocyclones’ overflow particle size, which exhibits excellent performance and high availability sustained over time.
