Abstract
► Elastic properties and residual strains measured on bones irradiated up to 3800 kGy. ► Apparent elastic modulus of hydroxyapatite unchanged and residual strains decrease. ► Decrease attributed to damage at hydroxyapatite-collagen interface. ► Damage due to radiation significantly more than due to mechanical deformation. ► Damage allows hydroxyapatite crystals to relax.
