Abstract
⺠Elastic properties and residual strains measured on bones irradiated up to 3800 kGy. ⺠Apparent elastic modulus of hydroxyapatite unchanged and residual strains decrease. ⺠Decrease attributed to damage at hydroxyapatite-collagen interface. ⺠Damage due to radiation significantly more than due to mechanical deformation. ⺠Damage allows hydroxyapatite crystals to relax.
