Abstract
⺠Mechanical properties of silicone gel breast implants decay during implantation. ⺠Mechanical decay is mainly due to shell swelling phenomenon. ⺠Ruptured implants show significant lower strength and stiffness than intact ones. ⺠Shell decay is a major mechanism for silicone gel breast implant failure.
