Abstract
Results from a series of experimental studies on the elevated temperature response of notched SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composites are presented. SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composite notched specimens were subjected to quasi-static monotonic tensile loading at room and, 1093∘C, 1204∘C, and 1316∘C temperature. Full field digital image correlation was employed to investigate failure of the specimens, most likely emanating from the notch. The effectiveness of a novel DIC technique at temperatures of up to 1316∘C is also demonstrated. Strength measurements and differences in crack initiation and propagation are discussed.
