Abstract
Results from a series of experimental studies on the elevated temperature response of notched SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composites are presented. SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composite notched specimens were subjected to quasi-static monotonic tensile loading at room and, 1093âC, 1204âC, and 1316âC temperature. Full field digital image correlation was employed to investigate failure of the specimens, most likely emanating from the notch. The effectiveness of a novel DIC technique at temperatures of up to 1316âC is also demonstrated. Strength measurements and differences in crack initiation and propagation are discussed.
