Abstract
This paper concerns the application of control loop performance assessment and benchmarking techniques in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Current control work is compared to an optimal achievable or a best theoretical work of a control loop by means of Harris index and a generalized output index. System behaviour of a typical temperature loop is investigated for proportional, PI and PID controllers and a system with “on-off” control. Conclusions for the applicability of the proposed methodologies are made. Both indices are compared for the different control methodologies.
