Abstract
This paper presents an alternative control strategy using a variable speed drive (VSD), an industrial programmable logic controller (PLC) and proportional integral and derivative (PID) control for a reverse osmosis desalination system. An existing Renewable Energy Hybrid Power Supply Grid previously developed at Curtin University of Technology provides static power to this RO system. With a PID controller implemented in PLC and SCADA, the experiment reveals that the objective of energy saving is achieved. Instrumentation, calibrations, and communications are also included.
