Abstract
This article reports about a case study in model based design of embedded hardware and software. Practical example is a serial high speed communication system for interprocessor communication. The system uses communication ports that are integrated in processor devices but uses them in an unusual way. In order to validate the function by simulating the model it is necessary to model the function of the software under development, the hardware integrated in the processors and the hardware structures outside them. Simulation delivers qualitative and quantitative properties of the system. Finally these results are compared to measurements from the completed system.
