Abstract
Theoretical calculations have been proposing to determine the gyration tensor components of Hg3Te2Br2, based on the phenomenological theory of optical activity for the homogeneous medium. This study provides the better understanding of gyrotropy mechanism and its origin in acentric crystals. The results are interpreted with the assumption that the optical rotation excludes the distortion. The correlation between the existence of optical activity phenomenon and realization of direct optical transitions in crystal under investigation was established. This is the first theoretical report on the optical properties of Hg3Te2Br2.
