Abstract
As the chance of unexpected loadings such as impact or blast increases the importance of concrete structures are not designed to resist again the impact or blast loadings and hence strengthening of existing structures might be required per situation. This study investigated the effect of the CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) strengthening to the normal concrete beams. The strengthening for the beans was applied with the variable of a width and spacing of the strengthening CFPR wrapping. The impact test was conducted with the drop weight test machine. The drop weight of the hammer was 461 kg and it was dropped from the height of 300mm. The deflection and strain at the concrete in various positions of the beams were measured and compared with the reference beam to investigate the strengthening effect.
