Abstract
On-line closed loop system parameter identification for linear systems may be approached from an algebraic viewpoint based on non-commutative ring theory, module theory and operational calculus. The approach can be made also robust with respect to a large class of system perturbation inputs and measurement noises. In this tutorial introduction to the algebraic approach for system identification and fast adaptive control, we illustrate, by means of simple examples, the use of the technique and some of its possible extensions.
