The Far East, with Europe, led the widespread dissemination of wireless mobile phone technology in the 1990s. Industrial development in the Asia Pacific region works in a somewhat different way compared with the US and Europe. Here, some impressions are given of the changes in Japan and in the foundry experiments made in the past few years from the point of view of the compound semiconductor industry.
