Abstract

Today user orientation within the development process of user interfaces in the production environment is concentrated on tasks of certain user groups. To enhance the usability of user interfaces, the development process is expanded by the personalization of user interfaces. Thus individual user preferences and their attributes, differences concerning the structuring and the design of interfaces, have to be examined to develop appropriate interfaces for specific users. Different test methods to gain these preferences and attributes are described within this paper. Furthermore the influences of these preferences and attributes in each phase of the development process will be described, as well. Throughout this integration of these influences on the process, it is necessary to consider and concentrate on individual differences during the user interface development.
