Abstract
This paper presents the application of a sliding mode predictive control (SMPC) algorithm on the benchmark control problem of the isothermal operation of a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) with Van der Vusse reactions and an on-line concentration analyzer that introduces a dead-time to the non-linear behavior of the process. The SMPC showed a considerable robustness improvement with respect to MPC in the presence non-linearities and time delay even when using a linear model to compute the predictions in the controller, avoiding the use of non-linear optimization and allowing a low cost consuming algorithm.
