Abstract
The paper defines the modal digital control problem for a continuous-time LTI process with m inputs and n outputs and real-valued pure time delay. A generalized higher-order hold is applied as an extrapolator. The paper introduces the concept of modal controllability for such a process. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived under which the modal controllability takes place. Moreover, for modal controllable processes, a method is provided that allows to build the set of all controllers which place the closed-loop modes on prescribed locations. The investigations base on the discrete backward model of the process.
