A CONCEPTUAL STRUCTURE FOR THE USE OF NEAR-MISSES PROPERTIES

Aim of the paper is to define a scientific structure to prove the reason why ***near-misses should be the joint between the safety department and the rest of the company. The structure is composed of a model based on the set theory which enables us to denote the categories “error”, “incident”, “mishap”, “accident” and “near-miss”, and a classification algorithm to exactly define each category. This double-step structure helps in the understanding of how to use the power of near-misses properties to implement a company-wide improvement program.
