Abstract
With the advent of very small low-cost, low-power sensors and wireless networking, new approaches to the processing of sensor data are required in manufacturing, and particularly in equipment and process diagnostics. The purpose of this paper is to describe and illustrate the nature of these changes, termed ***sensor informatics, that promise to transform the face of 21st century manufacturing.
