Abstract
This paper presents complexity metrics that can be used to compare different logic controller designs in the format of sequential function charts for the same automation task and to assess the quality characteristics of the designs like usability and maintainability. The proposed method helps to improve the quality of logic controller designs, and thereby can reduce life-cycle cost. The method is illustrated by a application example.
