Abstract
This paper describes teaching experience in two courses in the authors’ institution. These courses use hardware-in-the-loop simulation in order to require the students to design actual controllers (with full control software, PLC interface, etc.) instead of simulations of controllers. In this way, a more realistic student experience is achieved without the need of (multiple) expensive pieces of real process equipment.
