Abstract
⺠Replication is revealed as filling two distinguishable functions in organic evolution: Memory and Synthesis (introducing variation). ⺠As these functions can be otherwise served, replication does not appear to be a fundamental Darwinian function. ⺠It is argued that the combination of Interaction + Synthesis + Memory works better than that of Replication + Interaction in a Generalized Darwinism.
