Abstract
Many simulations of charged aerosols are limited to moderately charged aerosols. In order to simulate highly charged aerosols, a 2D extension of the fixed-sectional approach, capable of dealing with negative values, is derived which is more efficient than standard 2D sectional models. Assuming that the charge and the volume of the aerosol particles are independent of each other, this model preserves the 0th and 1st moment in both dimensions. The relaxed grid requirements allow to include higher charges in the simulation without increasing the computational effort or reducing accuracy of the obtained results.
