Abstract

This paper deals with the effects of the rugosity due to glass beads on the characteristics of a surface DBD. To achieve this, an electromechanical investigation has been conducted. The results show that the glass beads do not alter the power consumption. While, the velocity of the electric wind is reduced about 1 m/s for discharges with an important surface roughness. Then, the rate of chemical species has been recorded. These measurements show that the production of chemical species is not correlated with the induced electric wind by the plasma, but is rather due to the increase in exchange surface.

► We investigated the electromechanical and the chemical properties of a surface DBD combined with roughness. ► Roughness has no significant effect on the power consumed. ► Electric wind is reduced with the roughness, this reduction increases gradually with the roughness size. ► Ozone generation does not depend of the roughness, contrary to Nitrogen dioxide production. ► Production of chemical species is not correlated with the electric wind, but is due to the increase in exchange surface.
