Abstract

Null Hypothesis Significance Testing (NHST) is a well known tool in statistical inference. NHST has a wide potential applicability in experimental research, for instance in treatment of outlying observations. However, rational of NHST and inter-pretations of results of significance tests are debated. In the present paper, principles and applications of NHST are presented and discussed in the framework of Bayesian statistics, focusing on perspectives of metrological interest.
