Abstract
⺠We investigated shared representations of syntactic knowledge in music and action. ⺠Pianists imitated silent videos showing one hand playing chord sequences. ⺠Imitation was fastest when chords were harmonically congruent with the context. ⺠The effect of context increased with increasing musical training. ⺠Musical training may lead to a domain-general “grammar of action”.
