Abstract
âºWe present the first verified sample of Chinese-language synaesthetes. ⺠We present the first evidence of synaesthesia in a logographic language. ⺠We show that synaesthetic associations in Chinese are not random, both for first- and second-language Chinese speakers. ⺠Synaesthetes may colour characters using mechanisms based on the initial letter/vowel of the associated Pinyin/Bopomo spelling. ⺠Character-colouring is not determined by character tone.
