Abstract
⺠We studied determinants of synesthetic color choice for Japanese phonetic characters. ⺠Japanese grapheme-color synesthetes selected a color corresponding to each character. ⺠Synesthetic color selection depended on sound quality and not on visual form. ⺠The involvement of higher order cortical processing area in synesthesia is suggested.
