Abstract
In this brief editorial, I examine the question posed when the journal was founded: Is Intelligence necessary? A brief history of the journal is presented. Data are presented showing that publications indexed under intelligence have dramatically increased since Intelligence began publishing. Citations to articles published in Intelligence have also increased. The correlation between publication year and two-year impact factor is 0.88 for years in which data were available. While these relationships may not be causal, it is clear that intelligence research is gaining in importance and the journal may have played some role in that. Finally, I discuss the importance of editor, reviewers and authors in the success of the journal.
