Abstract

•Typical method of SVPWM current tracing algorithm versus improved one has been compared.•The comparison consists an assessment of the results of compensation by various distortion indices.•Improved method has led to lower load current distortion and a simplification of the SVPWM current tracking algorithm.

The paper deals with measurement and control aspects of active power filtering at ship systems. A main focus of the paper is concentrated on the analysis of the solutions for the improvement of algorithms of compensating current generation. Two aspects of the problem are discussed. Firstly, a choice of an appropriate algorithm focused on hardware and software complexity. Secondly, an assessment of the quality of compensation by analysis of resulting current waveforms on power supply side, using various distortion indices and considering various frequency bands.
