Abstract
► Emotional arousal can result in heightened consolidation of unwanted memories. ► Relaxing music may counter the increased arousal levels that neuromodulate memory. ► In two experiments, we show that relaxing music prevents enhanced emotional memory. ► Music may be a highly practical means of reducing recall of traumatic memories.
