Abstract
► Strain differences in memory forming ability. ► A neuron, RPeD1 known to be necessary for memory was studied. ► RPeD1 in the superior memory forming strain is 'primed' for memory formation. ► With training RPeD1 becomes less excitable. ► The less excitable state of RPeD1 is a neuronal correlate of behavioural memory.
