Abstract
•Need for amending VIM3 is determined by the increase of interest to person as measurement object.•Measurement of multidimensional quantities is a topical trend in metrology.•Measurement is a process the result of which has to be accepted by society.•Amendments of the term “measurement” and four related terms are proposed.
The paper comments on the definitions of such terms as “measurement,” “nominal property,” “metrological traceability,” and others given in the 3-rd edition of International Vocabulary of Metrology (VIM). Proposals are offered for amendments to the terminology of the next edition of the VIM, taking into account new fields where measurements are applied.
