Abstract
⺠We investigated ERP responses of 9-month-olds on basic level picture-word pairings. ⺠With six pairings per concept, repetition of concepts leads to smaller Negative Central components. ⺠Infants have identified pictures within a second. ⺠Within 250 ms, infants noticed when the word does not match a picture. ⺠Size of congruency effect (N400) correlates with infants' vocabulary.
