Abstract

Gd2MoB2O9 doped with Sm3+ and Dy3+ were used for this study. The photoluminescence behaviors of Sm3+ and Dy3+ in this phosphor material were investigated by the excitation and emission spectra. The Sm3+-doped Gd2MoB2O9 phosphor powders show a red luminescence, whereas the Dy3+-doped Gd2MoB2O9 phosphor powders show a yellow luminescence. In addition, the optimum doping concentration and the time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy were also investigated.

► Luminescence behaviors of Sm3+ and Dy3+ in Gd2MoB2O9 are investigated. ► Intense absorptions due to the f–f transitions are observed. ► The Sm3+ and Dy3+ ions exhibit red and yellow in Gd2MoB2O9, respectively. ► Optimum concentrations are 0.15 for Sm3+ and 0.30 for Dy3+. ► Decay curves are analyzed by employing the Inokuti–Hirayama model.
