Abstract
► We explore the relationship between the current global financial crisis and problem drinking. ► Our indicator of problem drinking is derived from US Google searches conducted over the period 2004-2011. ► A 5% rise in unemployment is followed, with a lag of six months, by a 15% increase in alcohol related searches.
